I have a question to pose for all you Teachers and Student Teachers out there in Blog World...
Teachers: If you have a Student Teacher interning in your classroom in the Fall, is it appropriate for them to write a letter introducing themselves to the parents?
Student Teachers: Do you feel that you should write a letter to the parents at the beginning of the school year to introduce yourself?
I ask this question because I will be interning in the Fall and I feel that I should take a letter (I already wrote it since I had some time now before things get too hectic) but I also wonder if the teacher will think that it is too forward of me... its her classroom and I don't want to give off a bad impression, but I like to always be prepared and be professional. Parent/Teacher communication, I feel, is crucial for a student's academic success and I thought that a letter would be a nice way to introduce myself and open up the lines of communication between the parents and myself.
I'd LOVE to have your input since all of you are amazing teachers! All comments and suggestions are welcome! :)

I student taught last Spring and I had to write several letters, one of which being a letter to introduce myself. All of the letters I sent home were required from the University I was getting my degree from. My mentor teacher was completely fine with me sending letters home, as long as she was able to read them before they were sent! Hope this helps!
Wow...Nice and cool post, most of the part is so funny!.
Thanks for posting!
Professional Letters
I think you should. It was actually required by my college that we write and send home a letter to the parents explaining who we were and what our role would be. Both cooperating teachers were impressed that this was done. The parents were thankful for this information about who was in their child's classroom.
Hope this helps.
Yes, yes, yes! Write the letter! I just had my first student teacher this spring and it was the thing I had asked her to come prepared with ahead of time so that I could send it home before she was even due to be with us. It really gave parents the opportunity to help explain the transition that was going to be happening to my kinders... I think they will appreciate it, think of it as professional and not forward at all. Great job getting it done ahead of time. Smart!

When I student taught in the spring of 2010 we were required to send home a letter to parents introducing ourselves. I think it is a great way for parents to find out a little bit about you, since you will be working with their child for the next several months.
Thanks for posting this question. I had planned to do this myself but I am not sure what to include in the letter. It should include my name, what school I am attending and my role in the classroom.
What other information do I need to include? I start next week, so I want to write the leter this weekend.
Thanks
Dear TxGirl79,
It is a fabulous idea to get a head start on your letter because chances are that when you start the seminar course they are going to require it from you anyways. Congratulations on starting your internship! It seems that you and I are on the same boat... I start on Monday, January 9th as well so be sure and add me to your favorites as I will be discussing my internship, in detail, on my blog. If I could offer you some advice I would suggest that you google "student teacher introduction letter" or something along those lines on the internet and see what comes up. I got loads of ideas for my letter by sampling what others have written. You're on the right track by including your name, school, etc. but you should also talk a little about yourself as well. Let me know if you need any more help! :)
Wishing you the best of luck on Monday!
